Harmful Algal Blooms

MAYVILLE, N.Y.: – Monitoring and sampling efforts for harmful algal blooms or HABs are ongoing at affected lakes in Chautauqua County.

  • Chautauqua Lake – Widespread harmful algal blooms have been confirmed in the South Basin and small isolated blooms have been confirmed in the North Basin, however no public beaches are closed due to HABs.

  • Findley Lake – Widespread harmful algal blooms have been confirmed throughout the lake.

Note that HAB conditions can change rapidly. Use caution when entering the water where an active bloom is present. Do not ingest the water. Closely watch children and pets. If exposed to algae, wash off immediately.
