DUNKIRK, N.Y.:-- The first Lake Erie Rally is scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, 1 Mullet Dr. in Dunkirk, N.Y.
The Lake Erie Rally is free and open to the public. It will feature exhibits and presentations on the positive initiatives currently underway to improve and enhance Chautauqua County’s waterfronts and harbors on Lake Erie.
“The Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club on Dunkirk’s waterfront is the perfect venue for an event like this,” said Chautauqua County Watershed Coordinator Dave McCoy. “We are grateful that the club offered us the venue, which has room for more than 150 people. It’s always a good thing when people come together, share their thoughts and learn about what is being done to improve our communities.”
Presentations will include information on the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program, improvements to Dunkirk harbor, and the Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District’s efforts to improve water quality in Lake Erie tributaries. It will also include a presentation on the Lake Erie Watershed Protection Alliance (LEWPA), which is a partnership among Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Erie Counties’ that is focused on regional watershed planning and funding environmental restoration projects.
“Lake Erie and our north county harbors are important parts of Chautauqua County’s economy and culture,” said Chautauqua County Executive Vince Horrigan. “We are excited to share information about the progress we are making.”
The event is hosted by the Lake Erie Management Commission and is co-sponsored by the Chautauqua County Department of Planning and Economic Development, Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau, City of Dunkirk Department of Planning and Development, and Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club.
